// BY THERESA IKOKO
A film adaptation of the hit stage play about three culturally-savvy girls held captive by Islamic militia and the rescue attempts to find them. Set in modern day Africa, Girls is a funny and fiercely passionate story about friendship, the power of imagination and the stories behind headlines that quickly become yesterday's news.
Theresa Ikoko’s distinctly poetic and visceral writing makes her one of the most exciting young writers of her generation. Girls won the Alfred Fagon Award (2015), George Devine Award (2016), and was a finalist for the Verity Bargate Award (2015). Theresa's other plays include: Visiting Hours, Normal and The Race Card. She currently has a first look deal with Film4, is developing a TV project with Clerkenwell Films, and has new commissions from Soho Theatre, The Bush Theatre and The National Theatre.
